Updated: 9/13/22
Shabbat with Friends NM is excited to announce the 3rd year the New Mexico Miller Introduction to Judaism Program (MITJ) to serve the Albuquerque area the Southwest region (by remote connection). This program, developed by American Jewish University in Los Angeles, offers an experiential and engaging, welcoming, and meaningful learning path for persons
The hallmark of this program is that people come from all backgrounds and all walks of life. What brings people together in this course of study are participants’ curiosity and desire to learn, to dive deep into Jewish tradition, heritage culture and ideas. Participants come to understand the most powerful Jewish concepts and practices that give life meaning and a strong sense of belonging.
Those who are considering conversion to Judaism will be able to choose a local rabbi in the community to act as a sponsor for their conversion process. The program provides contacts for Reform, Conservative, and Renewal Rabbis who are available to guide candidates in the conversion process. It is important to note that the Miller Program does not endorse proselytizing of any kind. The decision to convert is up to the participant.
The Lead Instructor: Rabbi Dov Gartenberg, studied comparative religions at Berkeley and Harvard. He was trained for the rabbinate at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles and the Jewish Theological Seminary in Manhattan. He has been a member of the Rabbinical Assembly of America since 1981. He has taught introduction courses his whole career, helping hundreds of students in their Jewish journeys.
