Exploring the Jewish Experience (EJE) Courses
in Santa Fe and Albuquerque
Winter/Spring Semester 2024
Topic: Exploring Jewish Practice and Religious Ideas

Starting Wednesday, January 24th in Albuquerque

Who is this course geared for?
- Jews seeking a more in depth understanding of their heritage.
- Persons who are curious about Jews and Judaism and are troubled by anti-Semitism.
- Persons of different faiths and cultures who want to better understand the background of a Jewish partner or considering child-rearing decisions around religion and culture.
- Persons who wish to fulfill the year of study prerequisite to convert to Judaism.
The EJE Course meets year-round. It is divided into three trimesters:
- Winter/Spring: Exploring Jewish Practice and Religious Ideas.
- Summer: Exploring Dimensions of Jewish culture and peoplehood.
- Fall: Exploring Jewish history, thought, and antisemitism.
The course meets in person in ABQ and Santa Fe. Each can also be taken online. Tuition for each trimester is only $18 per person with those taking the full year of the course: $54. Tuition is subsidized through a grant from the National Center to Encourage Judaism (NCEJ).
The EJE Santa Fe Course will meet on Tuesday evenings, 7-8:30, running from 1/23/24 to 6/11/24. Â The course will meet in a home in Northeast Santa Fe near St Marcy Park with ample street parking.
The Santa Fe EJE Course will be taught by a team of outstanding Jewish educators. Rabbi Dov Gartenberg, Rabbi Jack Shlacter, and Joy Ellen Rosenberg. Â The Santa Fe Course is a joint program of Shabbat with Friends NM, the HaMakom Community of Santa Fe, and the Los Alamos Jewish Center.
The Albuquerque EJE Course will meet on Wednesday evenings, 7-8:30 at the Keshet Center for the Arts on 4121 Cutler Ave NE. It runs weekly from 1/24/24 through June 7, 2024. Â Rabbi Dov Gartenberg of Shabbat with Friends NM is the lead teacher.
The EJE Courses in New Mexico are affiliates of the Miller Introduction to Judaism Program of the American Jewish University and utilize this program’s excellent curriculum.
