About the event
Join us for an end of Shabbat of Israeli dancing and Shabbat singing in Fort Marcy Park Canopy in Santa Fe on Saturday, August 17th from 6-8:30.
About the gathering. This “Song and Dance” gathering will be held outdoors, featuring a Shabbat meal and followed by singing and dancing of traditional table songs and classic Israeli dances. The origins of many Israeli dances come from Shabbat table songs which were choreographed by Israeli and Jewish dance choreographers in the mid 20th century.
Another special feature of this gathering is that the music is live, provided by SWF’s Oneg Shabbos Ensemble. We’ll first sing the original song with the ensemble, followed by dancing the dance with some instruction provided. Our host, Joy Rosenberg, who is an Israeli dance teacher has selected several songs and dances for us to enjoy.
Schedule
6-7pm Third Shabbat meal under the Fort Marcy Park canopy.
7-8:15pm Singing and Israeli dancing led by Joy Rosenberg, other Israeli dance teachers with musical accompaniment by the Oneg Shabbos Ensemble.
8:15-8:30 Havdallah, Conclusion of Shabbat ritual.
SWF gatherings are great for meeting new faces, and bringing friends to share in a joyful, relaxing, and spiritual setting. Open to the community and free. Pre-registration is required. Please RSVP by Friday morning, August 16th. The potluck signup is linked to the RSVP instructions. Ample parking is available at the Fort Marcy Park Community Recreation Center.
