A Timely Opportunity to Learn about Judaism and the Jewish Experience

A Jewish Immersion Bath-Mikveh

The Exploring the Jewish Experience Course Expands to Santa Fe. Explore Judaism in Santa Fe, ABQ, or online starting in January 2024.

The Exploring the Jewish Experience Course is an ideal way to explore Judaism and the history of the Jewish people whether you come in-person or take the course online. The course meets year-round, offers in depth study of the many facets of Judaism, and is distinguished by outstanding instruction by local rabbis and Jewish educators. The course offers an engaging study of Judaism and the Jewish people, touching on the most consequential teachings, history, and enduring characteristics of one of the oldest continuous religions and cultures.

Three New Mexican Jewish educators have come together to offer the new Exploring the Jewish Experience (EJE) Course in Santa Fe starting in January 2024. Rabbi Jack Shlachter of HaMakom, Rabbi Dov Gartenberg of Shabbat with Friends, and Joy Ellen Rosenberg of Santa Fe will form the teaching team of the EJE Course. The Santa Fe EJE Course is an expansion of the first EJE Course begun in Albuquerque in the Fall of 2022 by Shabbat with Friends, New Mexico. Rabbi Gartenberg will continue to teach the ABQ EJE Course.

The Santa Fe EJE Course is cosponsored by HaMakom of Santa Fe, the Los Alamos Jewish Center and Shabbat with Friends New Mexico. Both New Mexico EJE Courses are an affiliate of the Miller Introduction to Judaism Program of the American Jewish University. The EJE Courses are partially funded by a grant from the National Center to Encourage Judaism (NCEJ).

The course is designed for a wide variety of adult participants.

  • Jews seeking a more in depth understanding of their heritage.

  • Persons who are curious about Jews and Judaism and are disturbed by anti-Semitism.

  • Persons of different faiths and cultures who want to better understand the background of a Jewish partner and/or the cultural/religious background they wish to impart to their children.

  • Persons who wish to fulfill the year of study prerequisite to convert to Judaism.

The Santa Fe EJE Course will meet on Tuesday evenings beginning on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 7:00-8:30pm. The location of the Santa Fe course sessions will be announced in January.

The Albuquerque EJE Course meets on Wednesday evenings with the new Winter/Spring Trimester commencing on January 24, 2024. It meets at the Keshet Center for the Arts. Ample free parking is available.

Tuition for the Winter/Spring Trimester for either course is $18. Tuition for the full year consisting of 44 sessions is $54. Tuition does not include books. The tuition is heavily discounted thanks to the grant from the NCEJ.
