About the SWF Fall Retreat with Rabbi Arthur Green, Scholar in Residence (SIR)
Rabbi Arthur Green joins the retreat as “Scholar in Residence”. He will teach Torah at services and in special sessions over Shabbat. Rabbi Green burst on the Jewish scene in 1972 as a leader of Havurat Shalom in Boston. He was the top student of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and a friend of Rabbi Zalman Schacter. He will share amazing stories about these American Jewish giants and other figures on Friday night.

The retreat takes place at the beautiful retreat center at Truchas Peaks place with stunning views of Mt. Truchas. Blessed with beautiful and comfortable accommodations for all ages including children, the retreat will feature wonderful opportunities including:
-
An optional Friday afternoon of workshops called “Intentional Shabbat Preparation” which includes workshops on challah baking, Shabbat cooking, learning Shabbat songs.
-
Traditional and delicious Shabbat meals in a beautiful dining hall.
-
A children’s program parallel to the adult program which is fun for children and provides free time for parents. (provided with sufficient family retreat signup).
-
Talented staff including Rabbi Judith Halevy of the Taos Jewish Center, Jason Kintzer, an inspired Jewish teacher from the Pacific Northwest, and Rabbi Dov, the leader of Shabbat with Friends.
-
Topped off on Saturday night with a Melaveh Malkah-a traditional extension of Shabbat and Kumsitz (a campfire-weather permitting) with song, treats, and storytelling.
We’ll conclude on mid Sunday morning with a delicious breakfast and closing session. We finish early enough for folks to explore the Turquoise Trail and the beautiful places in the Truchas environs.

About the Truchas Peaks Place Retreat Center,
Site of the SWF Fall Retreat
Truchas Peaks Place was established in 2008 with the intention of providing a source of inspiration, rejuvenation, and relaxation for event groups seeking a one-of-a-kind retreat experience. Nestled within the foothills of the Sangre de Christo range of the Rocky Mountains, this retreat center is ideal for a Shabbat of reflection, conversation, intention, and connection. We hope you will join us for a stimulating, exhilarating, and spiritually uplifting experience at the end of October along the Turquoise Trail.

About Rabbi Art Green: New Mexico Scholar-in-Residence
Rabbi Green was the inspiration of the Institute of Jewish Spirituality which has elevated the teaching of hundreds of rabbis, cantors and Jewish educators. Rabbi Green was close friends with Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, z‘al, of Jewish Renewal and other Jewish innovators across the country. He is the founder of the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Boston, Mass, which in a short time has become a respected school of higher Jewish learning. Rabbi Green comes to New Mexico at the Zenith of his career as a rabbi and Jewish educator. It is a rare privilege to have amongst us a scholar, teacher, and religious visionary of this caliber.
