Torah with Friends

Torah with Friends (TWF) is the educational wing of Shabbat with Friends NM. Under the rubric of TWF, we offer courses and workshops that deepen understanding of Jewish tradition and the Jewish experience. Our approach to teaching relies on the traditional method of Havruta study, face to face and small group exploration of classic Jewish texts. Havruta study encourages questioning, thoughtful disagreement, and and original thinking that leads to diverse perspectives, and a deeper understanding of Torah and the human experience. This way of learning also fosters friendships and empathy for others.

Exploring the Jewish Experience
Summer 2025

A course for those who are curious about Jewish identity, Jewish culture, and the compelling story of the Jewish people.

The EJE Course is a wide-ranging year-long course that presents the teachings of Judaism and explores the story of the Jewish People. The 18-week Fall trimester explores Jewish history, thought, and the Jewish sacred library. The 18-week Winter/Spring trimester delves into Jewish views of God and its way of life and festivals.

The 2025 summer session explores dimensions of Jewish culture including humor, food, arts and music, languages, ethnicity, and the unique complexity of Jewish identity.  Taught by engaging teachers, Rabbis Dov Gartenberg and Jack Shlachter, the EJE course is interactive, informative, and insightful. The course is open to all backgrounds. The course is available online. A concurrent in-person option can take place in Santa Fe if we have a minimum of 5 in-person participants.
