The Passing of Ina Rochelle Gartenberg, Mother of Rabbi Dov Gartenberg

We are saddened to share the passing of Ina Rochelle Gartenberg, beloved mother of Dov of Santa Fe, NM, Jan (Don) of Dallas, TX, and Marc (Joan) of Highland Park, NJ. Ina passed away peacefully in Dallas, TX, on Friday afternoon, May 30th, 2025, three days before her 93rd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Allan and son Philip.
Ina and Allan met in the Bronx when she was thirteen. They dated for five years until their marriage in 1952. She was a devoted wife and dedicated matriarch of an ever-expanding family. She is survived by her grandchildren Chavi, Yisrael, Shimi, Oren, Zachary, Moriel, Fay, Aaron and Micah, as well as 19 great-grandchildren in Israel.
When her youngest child started attending school, she became an accomplished paralegal and a committed volunteer. She was an avid reader, gardener, and the go-to baker for all gatherings. She had a firm sense of right and wrong and expected her children to follow suit. Nevertheless, she was fun loving, silly, and never afraid to show it. Ina was proud of her Jewish identity and instilled that trait in her children.
Ina’s positive outlook was infectious. She expressed her vitality through brightly colored adornments, with each fingernail painted a different color, designer eyeglasses, and clip-on earrings for every occasion. A family friend nailed her personality and fashion sense when she said, "Ina wore generosity, graciousness, and fun like they were colors in her outfit.”
She will be laid to rest in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 4th, at Hillside Memorial Park & Mortuary. Shivah will take place in Culver City, CA through Thursday, June 6th. Rabbi Dov Gartenberg will sit Shivah in Santa Fe from Saturday night, June 8th to Tuesday morning, June 10th.
Funeral
Ina’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 2pm PDT at Hillside Memorial Park & Mortuary, 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045. The funeral will be broadcast live at the following link.
Shivah in Los Angeles
Shivah Minyans will take place on Wednesday and Thursday evening, June 4-5th at 7:30pm at the home of Susan Frazin in Culver City, CA. The family welcomes folks to help us make a minyan. Shivah Details for Rabbi Dov Gartenberg in Santa Fe after June 6th
Rabbi Dov Gartenberg will return to Santa Fe on Friday, June 6th. He will sit Shivah from Saturday night after Shabbat, June 7th through Tuesday morning, June 10th. The Shivah will be held in the Rancho Viejo neighborhood in Southside Santa Fe. I welcome the community to come for any of the services listed below.
